Privacy Policy for Eri's shelf

Eri's shelf (the “App”) is a local comic-book reader. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App processes, why it is processed, and the choices available to you.

Summary

• You do not need an account to use the App.
• Comic files, extracted pages, covers, collections, reading progress, and settings are stored locally on your device. We do not upload your comic files or their titles to our servers.
• The App sends pseudonymous usage analytics, diagnostic data, and any feedback you choose to submit to PostHog, our analytics and crash-reporting service provider.
• The App does not use advertising SDKs, sell personal information, or use your data for targeted advertising.

Information processed by the App

Files and library data stored on your device

When you choose to import a comic, the App uses Android's system document picker to access only the file you select. The App extracts the selected comic into its app-specific storage and stores information needed to manage your library, including:

• extracted comic pages and a local reference to the source file you selected;
• a generated cover image;
• the file-derived book title and file format;
• collections you create;
• reading progress, unread status, and dates related to adding or reading a book; and
• preferences such as theme, accent color, shelf sorting and filtering, grid size, and reading mode.

This library data remains on your device and is not sent to us or PostHog. The App does not access files that you have not selected through the system picker.

You can delete an imported book from within the App. Doing so removes the App's stored copy of that book and its library record from the device. Deleting a collection removes the collection but does not delete its books. Uninstalling the App normally removes its app-specific local data, subject to Android backup and restore behavior and your device settings. The App does not control copies of files that remain in their original location outside the App.

Usage analytics

If analytics is configured in the distributed version of the App, the App sends events to PostHog when you:

• first open or subsequently open the App;
• import or open a book;
• reach the 25%, 50%, 75%, or completion point of a book;
• resume reading, including the previous progress percentage;
• change reader mode or reader settings; or
• submit feedback.

These events use randomly generated internal book and installation identifiers. Book titles, filenames, comic pages, collection names, and the contents of comic files are not included in analytics events. The App does not create an account, ask for your name, or associate these events with an identified user profile.

PostHog also receives technical information associated with these events, which may include:

• an anonymous, persistent installation identifier;
• IP address and approximate location inferred from the IP address;
• app version, build number, and app identifier;
• operating system, operating-system version, device type and model;
• locale; and
• screen dimensions and event timestamps.

We use this information to understand App usage, improve features and usability, and diagnose performance or reliability issues. The App does not enable session replay or automatic screen-interaction capture.

Error and crash reports

In production versions, the App may automatically send PostHog information about uncaught errors, unhandled promise rejections, rendering errors, and native crashes. Reports may include an error message, stack trace, component stack, limited diagnostic context, and the technical information listed above. These reports are used to identify and fix defects. The App is not designed to attach comic files or comic content to error reports.

Feedback you submit

The feedback feature lets you send a selected mood and an optional free-text message to PostHog. Feedback is voluntary. Please do not include your name, email address, or other personal or sensitive information in the message. If you include such information, it will be processed as part of your feedback.

How information is shared

We disclose analytics, diagnostics, and submitted feedback to PostHog, Inc., which processes the information as our service provider. This App is configured to use PostHog's European Union hosting endpoint. PostHog may process limited information through its own subprocessors as described in its documentation and privacy materials.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, legal process, or enforceable governmental requests; protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or the App; or investigate fraud or security issues.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share information for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising.

Legal bases for processing

Where the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or similar laws apply, we rely on:

• our legitimate interests in understanding, maintaining, securing, and improving the App for analytics and diagnostic processing; and
• your action in voluntarily submitting feedback for processing that feedback.

You may object to processing based on legitimate interests as described under “Your choices and rights.”

Data retention

Local library data remains on your device until you delete the relevant content, clear the App's data, or uninstall the App, subject to Android backup and restore behavior.

Analytics, diagnostic, and feedback data is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, in accordance with our PostHog project settings, and is then deleted or anonymized unless a longer period is required by law. Because the App does not use accounts and analytics is associated with a pseudonymous installation identifier, we may not always be able to connect a request to a particular analytics record without additional identifying information.

Security and international processing

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No storage or transmission method is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

PostHog ingestion for this App is configured for the European Union. PostHog and its subprocessors may nevertheless process information in other countries where they operate, subject to appropriate legal safeguards where required.

Your choices and rights

You can:

• avoid importing a file by cancelling the system document picker;
• avoid sending free-text feedback;
• delete individual imported books within the App; and
• remove local App data through Android settings or by uninstalling the App, subject to backup and restore behavior.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction or deletion of, restriction of or objection to processing of, or portability of your personal information. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need information from you to verify and locate the relevant records, and some requests may be limited by law or by the anonymous nature of the data.

Children's privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If local law sets a higher minimum age for consent to data processing, that higher age applies. If you believe a child has provided personal information through feedback, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App or legal requirements. We will update the effective date above and, where required, provide additional notice.
